My Big Fat Greek-American Wedding

It’s not every day we get asked to work outside of Charleston on a wedding, but we absolutely love the opportunity when it arises.  Working out of town is no different than working at a new venue in town.  You do the same amount of research on the place, the area, and the vendors.  You plan for the event the exact same way and send out all the same detailed documents.  So the change of scenery is fun and exciting.

Sarah Ann and Petros’s wedding was unique in a few other ways.  1) Even though we were in Greenville and not in Charleston, we still got to work with our favorite vendor team! 2) Their wedding combined two cultures and religions.  Very much Greek, very much American.  It was so fun to see the elements they chose to incorporate from each, and equally entertaining watching the guests experience the culture in which they were less familiar.

The reception included two bands (one Greek, one American of course),  positioned on each end of the room, who alternated and played within each other’s breaks.  We included both rituals, such as the first dance between bride and groom, the father daughter dance, and the groom and mother dance, Zembekiko, and the Greek dollar dance (which is totally something every wedding should incorporate ASAP by the way – guests circle the bride and groom and shower them with dollars… more of that, please.)

The design element we loved the most was the use of fresh lemons within the floral design paired with stunning blue and white china.  Dessert was a prime factor of the evening as well, including a traditional three tiered wedding cake, jordan almonds, and baklava (that the bride down down from New York City from their favorite bakery.)
