Emma & Blake – Boone Hall

Nebraska comes to Charleston

Emma and I clicked instantly when we met for lunch at our initial consult in Avondale, both being from the midwest and sharing that Iowa/Nebraska border.  Her mom was with her and I remember thinking, “Wow, she reminds me exactly of my mom!”  Planning became so easy together, not only because Emma was extremely organized, but also because our tastes coincided and it was easy to make decisions bouncing ideas off one another.

This March evening in the Lowcountry was beautifully brisk (though unusually windy) and it made for the perfect evening on the Cotton Dock.  All of the guests had flown in from Nebraska during the same week that part of the country was getting extreme flooding. For one night, guests were able to let loose without thinking about the reality of what was waiting for them at home on the farm.

Emma’s eye for detail was brilliant, pairing bright greenery with copper details and bold floral.   I also applaud her for finding swings online that perfectly matched her vision of having swings on the Cotton Dock.  They were such a photo op and the sweetest place for her to read her note from Blake before the ceremony.

The best man’s speech had the guests cracking up, as he motioned toward the head table (of 30!) and asked, “You may be asking yourself if Emma will be friends with you if you’re not blonde, and the answer is no.” (That’s not true, by the way!) We were joking all weekend because of her 9 bridesmaids, 8 had bright blonde hair and it was really hard to tell them all apart.

Emma and Blake’s first dance will go down in history in my memory as one of the best I have ever seen – at first we saw a super low dip where her head almost touched the ground with such control, and the crowd was all, “WOW!” and THEN they hit us with an over the shoulder flip and it was seriously SO COOL!!

The night ended with the guests and bridal party boarding the party bus for downtown.  Emma ran back to the bar and asked if she could get a beer for the road, and I was like, “Emma, aren’t you going to get one for Blake too?  You’re married now!” And she was like, “Oh crap, you’re right.” And that’s how I knew we would remain friends forever.  😉
